The convergence of Zero Trust Architecture and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) is reshaping how the Department of War secures its systems and data. Recent executive orders and DoW CIO guidance mandate a transition to quantum-resistant cryptography, introducing new risks to existing trust and encryption models.
While Zero Trust is shifting the Department from perimeter-based defense to continuous verification and data-centric security, the emergence of cryptographically relevant quantum computing introduces a new dimension of risk—one that challenges the long-term integrity of today’s encryption and trust mechanisms. Adversaries are already exploiting this gap through “harvest now, decrypt later” strategies, making quantum readiness an immediate operational concern rather than a future problem.
